I managed to not only clear off my desk today, but to actually get the dust wipes out and clean the whole thing, too! It'll probably be another 4 months until I can get 15 minutes to take care of it again, so for now, I am dust free!

Is it wrong
Sadly, I can't find any of the actual videos which is a real bummer. Darn copyrights.
And, of course, Genesis.

Don't fence me in!
I'm all boxed in at work. I hate it when my desk gets like this! I so much prefer it to be nice and neat and clean. Hopefully I'll be able to get organized again on Friday.

Sign me up!
I'm starting to get a little more involved at the library and I really like it. I have to do a training for an afternoon in a few weeks. Now, that doesn't seem like much, I know, but it's not like the orientation and training when I got the job. It's training that all the youth librarians have to do for this program, so I'll be with librarians and interns alike. I might actually just be with librarians if I remember the schedule correctly. I'm actually excited about it. It's just my internship for now while I'm in school but I would be so happy if this translated into a job once I've graduated. I definitely know that I love what I'm doing and I like the Austin library system
I'm also planning my first program for the internship, too. In April, for Shakespeare's birthday, we will be making quill pens (provided I can get the feathers) and decorating journals. I came up with that idea on my own. Nothing spectacular, but I do hope that it will be fun.
Tomorrow night I'm covering a movie night for the librarian while she's off. I will be treated to a viewing of High School Musical 3. I've never seen any of these movies since I'm not 12 and I'm assuming that since it's Disney, I'm not going to need any back story. What the movie is isn't important, but I'm happy to finally be somewhat involved in a program.
I haven't really had much of a chance to plan or implement any programs. I have a little book that I'm filling with ideas for fun programs, but school and a full time job don't leave me much extra planning time. I guess I'll just stick with the easy ideas I come up with until I've got a little more time on my hands. Or a full time library job!

Bluebonnets!
It's been warm this week and very Spring-y. On my way back from the library across the street from work yesterday I noticed that the bluebonnets are out and ready to go! No flowers yet, but the plants are very green and spreading out for the Spring.
Doug started some work on our backyard garden beds last weekend. I don't know if we'll get plants in the ground as planned this weekend or not since we've both been sick. Hopefully I can get some good homework done tonight and tomorrow night so that I've got some time to help out on Sunday if possible. I can't wait to get our veggies planted!

That was the beginning of my week and most of last weekend. Luckily, I'm feeling much better, although I still sound terrible. Thank god for Nyquil and soft tissues.
I should probably update this Wordle and add "aches, pains, headache, flu" because that's what Doug has today. He never gets sick and then he gets hit by this. Poor Doug.

Hello bloggy

Hello bloggy. I've missed you. I've been sick for a few days. Darn sinus infections! I didn't mean to ignore you, but you know, when I can't breathe, typing is the last thing on my mind. After two days home from work and a lot of sleep, I'm finally feeling better. Not perfect, but better. I'm still rather stuffed up, but I don't feel like death warmed over, so I'd say it's a huge improvement. With any luck after another great Nyquil induced sleep tonight, I'll be feeling completely human again and will make it to work. Where the undoubtedly huge stack of things to be done will make me feel a little queasy again.

It's 10:00 a.m. and I could totally take a nap. This does not bode well for the rest of my (quite long) day.

Frustrated
Some days I am just so frustrated and irritated by my job and my workplace. And in the end, what it boils down to is inconsiderate people. And one person who thinks she's queen of the roost, with a superior attitude and her fingers in everyone's business.
We've all just taken pay cuts, and one person, my poor admin assistant, was let go. Queenie (who happens to be directly across the hall) has been on the phone with a couple people today whining and moaning about the pay cut and some remarks that were made at a meeting last night. Sometimes I just want to yell across the hall, "Hey, you're not the only one affected!" I have thus far refrained from kicking her when I pass her in the hall.
It just makes for a very bad day when the irritations pile up at once. Every little thing is just grating on my right now. Silly things. Like my Yahoo! music player... why does it keep playing the Violent Femmes when I have told it 63 times to knock it off. I think I've skipped them at least 3 times today.
Anyway, bleh. I just have to remember that I'm only here until I finish school. Then I will be in a library. Which I'm sure will have it's own issues; every workplace does. But, as I said to a friend yesterday, "At least it will have books."

All aTwitter

I spend too much time on Twitter. I love it. I like to waste time by searching various words and phrases and seeing what people are tweeting about. Especially when there's something going on in town, like the weather a few weeks ago.
I have also discovered some great bands, actors and authors on Twitter in the last few weeks. Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman tweet so much that when I don't have time to check it, I often come back to 3 pages of tweets to read. Stephen Fry is rather funny. So is Rainn Wilson.
Surprisingly, when you read through my tweets in succession, I sound like a rather negative person. And bitchy. I was a bit taken aback at first; I'm really not negative. I actually try to stay positive. You know, glass-half-full, sunshine and rainbows, maniacal smile.
Hmm, I guess that last one fits in with the negative bitch persona. I should work on that.

Monday
Here it is, Monday, and would you like to know how many things I accomplished from Friday's to-do list?
One. One little thing.
I managed, with lots of help from Doug, to get the laundry done and most of it put away.
But then, for fun, I created a much, much longer to-do list on Saturday night. Some items from the revised and ever-growing list were accomplished: dishes done, banana bread baked, veggies cut up for the week. If it weren't for the portable DVD player and Dr. Who those kitchen chores probably wouldn't have happened either.
The dust bunnies still rule the hallway. I think they're gathering more troops for a hostile takeover of the house. If they didn't look so wretched camped out along the baseboards, I might just let them win.

Lots to do
I feel the need for another to-do list. Not a crazy one, though. I don't really care if I get all of these things accomplished this weekend. I'd much rather have fun with Doug and get homework taken care of. But, should I have the time, I'd also like to
* fight the dust bunnies for the rights to the hallway
* ask the always-growing box creature in the garage if he minds being recycled
* see if the dirty laundry, which has burst from the hamper, will propel itself to the washer
* ponder the dust on the entertainment center
* finally bury the plants that have committed suicide for no apparent reason

I have no shame

And this little award is proof. A friend came up with this fun little award on her blog, Note to Self. I made the most shameless plug for my blog and won. Thanks MJ! Now go visit her, she's a riot!

Slackers!
Saturday night we went downtown to the Flamingo Cantina to see the Slackers. I look forward to this show every year! They do two nights here and normally Doug and I go to both. This year, we opted for just one. Turned out it was the DVD release party. Flamingo Cantina filmed the show's last year. Doug bought a copy Saturday night. Now we just have to watch it and see if we're in there anywhere!
Why is it that the hot girls are never the ones that climb up on stage?
Anyway, I highly suggest looking this band up. I've never been disappointed in one of their shows, even going on back-to-back nights. Every time is fantastic!
