Immense Kindness

We've been awfully lucky since we found out I'm pregnant. I'm hoping the luck is attached to the baby. For life.

My aunt and uncle still have a great deal of baby stuff from when they had their son. Their stash is practically every thing we could want or need outside of furniture... swing, high chair, stroller, 3 stages of car seats and lots more. I'll see them this weekend so we're going to do some planning to figure out how to get this stuff from Ohio to Texas.

The children's director at work is consolidating her nurseries. (I work at a church, by the way.) She rarely has infants in the nursery during services or meetings, so she's getting rid of some of her furniture. After she decided to do this, she said I could have whatever I wanted out of the nursery. So, later this summer, when we're ready to take it, we'll have a crib, changing table and nice sliding rocker.

On top of that, I have now won three different giveaways for baby or maternity stuff in the last few weeks. First, I won artwork for the baby's room from Natural Mommie. Doug and I chose a cute watercolor. Then, I won a big giveaway on the Go Natural Baby website- two baby outfits, handmade rattle, handmade basket and a book. This week, I won an outfit for me on Natural Mommie again! (Seriously... check out this blog... there are great giveaways all the time!) I never win things... and then I win three! It's been quite fun and quite surprising.

I am constantly amazed and thankful for the kindness and generosity of our friends and family. This baby is going to be very well cared for and we have many people to thank for their help.

Little Busy

So, clearly I'm neglecting the blog. Again. I don't mean to, but it's been busy. And at the same time, there isn't a whole lot going on, it seems.

I'm finally feeling a bit better and eating some more. I'll be happy when food actually sounds good again, though, because now I'm eating, but I'm not always happy about what I'm eating.

My semester is finished. Yay! I got into one of my waitlisted classes for the summer, so I'll be taking two classes. I think I've pretty much decided that it'll be better to take two and not three. That tacks on another semester for me, but I think it'll just be easier on me. That way I can spend more time getting the baby's room ready. And my friend Pam said she'd help me sew a bumper and quilt for the crib. Maybe even some curtains, too.

We've got some friends coming into town this weekend. Having a party on Saturday, too. Which should be interesting because I fly out insanely early on Sunday. I'm looking forward to a little vacation. My sister's graduation party is on Sunday and she graduates in another week. I'm staying for the whole week so that I can go to both. I can't wait to see everyone!

Other than that, there really isn't much going on. House cleaning and gardening as usual. Lots of reading. I hate not having time to really read during the semester, but it's been great for the last couple weeks. I'm furthering my reading of Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series. Quite fun!

Really, that's about it, though. And I probably won't be blogging much for another 10 days or so since I won't be around. I don't plan on lugging the laptop with me this time. If I really need to get online at home, my brother and sister both have laptops they'll let me borrow. So, we'll see... maybe I'll drop in and say hi next week.

To do list

Well, the semester is over. I've got 3 weeks until the next one starts. I still don't know anything about those classes. Hopefully it all works out.

I've been taking it easy this week trying to get rid of this cold or allergies or whatever I've got. I'm slowly getting better and finally sleeping pretty well again.

There are quite a few things I'd like to get finished while I've got this time. Most things involve the guest room which is going to be the baby's room.

paint the trim & touch up the ceiling
clean out the craft stuff in the closet
make a pile of stuff for Craigslist and actually get the items posted
clean up the garage
clean the house
organize some books in the bedroom
organize the kitchen cupboards

We'll see how much of that I can really accomplish. Especially since I'll be gone for a week later this month! For sure I will get the trim painted while I can still have the windows open in that back bedroom. Over the summer we, or Doug I guess, will be painting the free furniture I'm getting from work. I will post more about that kindness later. Right now, I'm watching Penguins playoff hockey!

Baby update!

My second appointment was this morning. The doctor said the baby looks great and we're both healthy. We could see arms and legs, the spine and the heart beating today. It's just amazing! And the baby's so much bigger this time than at the first appointment.

The baby was asleep and so the doctor started poking around (poking me!) to try to wake the baby up so we could see it move. After much poking, the baby moved once, kind of throwing an arm up. She tried again a couple minutes later to get a better picture, but the baby wasn't interested in being awake. I looked over at Doug and said something about the baby totally belonging to our family. None of us like to be awake. Ever. Doug swears you could practically hear the kid swearing at the doctor after being woken up. Our kid already has attitude!

On another front, apparently insomnia has set in for me. The doctor said it'll likely come and go and that's just the way it is. Not the answer I was looking for, but at least I can take Benadryl! I can also take Mucinex, so hopefully this sinus/allergy junk I've got going on right now will be cleared up soon.

Blech

I've been home most of the day. I spent the afternoon sleeping, dozing and reading in bed. I still have a sore throat and it's all due to a bunch of sinus drainage. I've got the meds that the doctor said were safe to take. I took one dose and didn't get much relief. Benadryl is safe, too, so I might try that instead before I go to bed later.

Let me just say this... If I ever end up on bedrest, look out. I'm already bored and I've only been laying around for about 5 hours.

Pregnancy symptom #9 I wasn't ready for

Not being able to eat very much. And I don't mean because nothing sounds good. I mean actual volume. Apparently everything is already shifting around because I can't eat as much as I used to. Which is fine, but weird.

This isn't something I had really considered, but I did know that everything was going to be moving around as the baby grows. I just thought it would be in a few months. I guess everything has shifted enough, even though the kid is only 2 inches long, that I can't eat a whole lot at one time.

For now, that's no problem. I still don't feel like eating much and nothing really sounds good. I imagine this will be more of a problem in a month or two when I want to eat everything!

The home stretch

Well, I've got one week to go in this semester. I spent yesterday finishing the final project for my Public Library class. It ended up being 25 pages long, but fairly easy to put together. I did the hardest part last week and that really helped. This week, I have to finish the final project for my Children's Lit class. That one's a little involved, but I have about half of it finished.

Then, there's just one final to take before next Wednesday and I'm free for about 3 1/2 weeks!

I'm waitlisted for 2 classes this summer, signed up for one I'd like to take and signed up for one I'm not interested in. (I don't understand how you get waitlisted for an online course.) If I can get into those two classes, I should be able to just take 2 in the fall and graduate in December as planned. If I don't get into those classes, I'm going to end up with an extra semester tacked on. Not the end of the world, but it'd certainly be a lot easier if this all worked out the way I planned it!
