Round and round

I finally learned how to use a record player this weekend, without worrying about scratching a record.

Friday afternoon we did a little shopping and got Doug some shorts. That store just happened to be in the same strip mall as an awesome little record store, Backspin Records. Amazingly, Doug didn't get anything this trip. But, I did. They have a bunch of 80s records and some fantastic New Wave stuff. I ended up with 3- Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys and Falco. Why I bought and entire Falco record, I'll never know, but it has the original version of Der Kommissar and that is an awesome song.

Anyway, Saturday I finally had a chance to listen to the records so Doug showed me how to use the record player. Now, I've always been around record players- this is not ancient technology to me. But, I wasn't always allowed to touch them, which is why I'm always afraid I'll scratch up the records. I can handle it now, though, and we listened to Duran Duran and Pet Shop Boys while we cleaned up the house and got ready for dinner Saturday night.

As we're cleaning in the living room, we had this little conversation:

Me: What was that?
Doug: It skipped. They do that. Welcome to 1984.
Me: Oh.

A few minutes later

Me: The music sounds so different.
Doug: Yea, welcome to music in 1984.

It's taken me a while to catch up, but I now regress further into the 80s every day.

It's only June!

See that up there? Feels like 110 degrees outside. And it's only June. We keep setting records and today is the 3rd ozone action day of the year already. And so far, there's no end in sight for these triple-digit days.

Not cool. Not cool at all.

Bring me a bomb pop. Or 30.

Funnies for Today

From the Shoebox Blog

They're right... the metaphor doesn't work. No one's hotter than Helen.

More Helen funnies for today:

Well, make that one more Helen funny. For some reason I can only find one of those clips.

The house is finished!!

Some old pictures of the house. This is what it looked like when we moved in.

And now, after a month (yes a month) of people working on the house, it's finally finished. All the trim has been replaced, the bad siding has been replaced, the front gate and fence were replaced and the house has been painted a lovely shade of green. I love it! The green is nice and cool. The fence looks fantastic and it has a nice, easy to use little latch now instead of the mess that passed for a latch before. Even the front door is painted! What do you think?

What is going on?

the world = crazy

I'm not saying we need to all hold hands and sing sappy songs. But, it'd be nice if people just tried to be sane and use some common sense. Giving some serious thought to problems never hurt anyone.

Vote!

So, I put a poll up over there. ---> I wasn't going to do it so soon, but I'm getting so darn excited, I just couldn't wait! So, for the next couple weeks, you can vote on whether you think we're having a boy or a girl.

I'm actually quite surprised that the poll stands in favor of a girl right now!! Pretty much everyone thinks it's a boy. Both sides of the family have been calling the baby "he" ever since they found out I'm pregnant. I think it's a girl. Doug will point out that I think it's a girl out of spite. Whatever.

So, give it your best guess and we'll have the answer for you on July 6!

Someone's in the kitchen

And it's finally me, not poor Doug! I can eat food again without wanting to puke. I can make real food, not just food that pregnant women want to eat. All the food groups are back into my diet, not just the french fry group. (Don't get me wrong, it's still important. It just isn't the only thing I want to eat anymore.)

I'm sure Doug is quite relieved. He's going to get real dinners this week. Not just something I threw together in 5 minute bursts while holding my breath so that he could eat when he got home from work. Real, actual meals will be consumed this week.

It's quite nice really.

Birthday list

People, it's getting to be that happy time of year again. Less than two months until my birthday! I'm quite excited as it is finally on a weekend, and a Friday at that. Something's just not quite right about a Wednesday birthday. I always feel a little cheated. But, not this year!

In order to prepare, I've got a little list of some possible birthday presents. I feel I can safely post this now because Doug has just mentioned my birthday for the first time this year. Yay!

blue moon ice cream
money towards having the house cleaned before the baby comes
hockey tickets for the new team in Cedar Park
steak for dinner
car windows tinted
Friends season 2 and seasons 4 through the end

Lovely Garden

This is today's haul from the garden. 9 ears of corn, a dozen carrots, 6 beans and many, many cherry tomatoes. Oh, and 2 romas. Yesterday, Doug picked 6 ears of corn and a zillion tomatoes. The corn was absolutely amazing for dinner last night. We're going to attempt some sun dried tomatoes this summer. We'll have plenty to use for that, for fresh salads and for canning. The community garden tomato plants have turned into a little tomato jungle. It's mind boggling to see how well everything has done there. The backyard is more of the same. So, if you're looking for a good roma, give us a call!

You know what I love?

Construction equipment. Seriously... the bigger the better. I have actually seen giant pieces of equipment on the road before and looked for the brand and numbers on the side so that I could look it up when I got home. That would have been the trench digger- the one not digging dirt over there.

I can be such a girly-girl, but then I love all these tomboy things. When I see a sandbox, I don't want to build castles, I want to dig with the plastic Tonka truck.

I'd make my cousin Jake proud... he loved this stuff when he was a kid. On the plus side, I'll be totally into this stuff if we have a boy.

15 week baby update

We had another baby checkup and ultrasound this morning. I have the big ultrasound in a month where they check for all sorts of things. We'll be finding out the sex of the baby at that point. I didn't really want to know, but Doug does. As we get closer to that date, though, I'm getting more excited to find out what this little one is. Today we got to hear the heartbeat which is really just amazing. The baby was awake and moving around a little bit during the ultrasound, too.

At one point, the doctor moved, the baby moved and the picture went from "Aw, the baby... head, arms, body" to "That looks like a Halloween skeleton costume" as you could see all the bones in the baby's spine, arm and hand. It was a little strange. As is the top ultrasound picture. Looks like a little skeleton head. The second picture is a cute little profile with a teeny little nose. Best ultrasound picture yet!

Because mimes aren't scary enough...

How creepy does this mime look? Vacant staring eyes... the lack of speech is bad enough, but if I came across this one, I'd assume it was a homicidal mime. And I'd run.

Little sister

I was home all last week for my little sister's graduation. She's the last of us! Graduation was really nice and her class chose the best speaker I've ever heard at a graduation before.

Some of the guys had cigars, as usual. The girls, however, celebrated in their own style!

This is us after graduation, back in the school office. Mom works in the office so I was there early to help set graduation up and then to help hand out the kids' records before they left.

I've been tagged

Ashley over at Ashley's the Name... tagged me while I was gone last week. Finally, I have 5 minutes to actually do this now. Work hasn't been particularly crazy since I got back, there just happens to be lots of stuff to get done. And I've been hanging out with Doug rather than do anything else in the evenings since he's been off for the last couple days.

So, anyway, I'm supposed to
1. List six unimportant things that make you happy (done)
2. Mention and link to the person who tagged you (done)
3. Tag six of your favorite bloggers to play along (hmmm... undecided on this point- haven't ever done it before- will consider)

So, here are my six things
1. nice, dark green grass
2. goldfish
3. pizza with just the right amount of sauce, crispy crust, lots of cheese and the toppings that I pick
4. getting real mail, not junk mail and bills
5. the junk on my desk... little Eiffel tower, Hoops & Yoyo panic button, random (and appropriate) Dilbert cartoons, signs I have made
6. my adorable car

Thanks Ashley! That was fun!

I'm here, I promise

I'm back home today. I had a fantastic week at home with my family. My sister's graduation was quite nice. I'll get some pictures up and post more this week.
