I was a band nerd in high school. All through school really. Although I wouldn't say nerd so much as I was just in the band. And I loved it! (So, yea, maybe the nerd part is apt.) Anyway, over Labor Day weekend Phee and I went home for a visit and so that I could be in the Alumni Band again, this time with Kate.
What a riot. Kate and I had such a fun time. We laughed a lot, we had happy meals for lunch, we (well, I) half played the music all through practice. I was way more a screw-up than Kate since she didn't graduate all that long ago. I was worse than our cousin Chris who hasn't ever done alumni band. She rocked! I marched the wrong way, I couldn't hardly play one of the songs, the high school kids practically ran all the way to the field from the school. So, yea, I'm 30 and it was pretty obvious to me.
Performance time was awesome, though, and as usual, the band really rocked. The alumni are spectacular and sound so amazing out on the field. I finally was able to play that one darn hard song when it was time for the halftime show. It really was a lot of fun. I hope it's not the last one.
So, here, for fun, are some videos of the practice and performance.
Ophelia and I fly out by ourselves in the morning. She's made two trips already, but those were family trips. This time, it's just us girls. I'm sure we'll be fine, but the prospect of flying alone with a baby is a bit daunting. Luckily she mostly wants me to hold her all the time anyway so the plane rides shouldn't be too bad as long as I can keep her entertained.
Saturday is alumni band at my high school. Kate and our cousin, Chris, will be there, too, and it should be a riot. We might not get through a whole song for all the laughing there's sure to be! It will definitely be a fun weekend!
