Another milestone

It seems that Ophelia and I are on the brink of another milestone.  Since around Thanksgiving, we've been slowly weaning.  The process has mostly been led by Ophelia, though I initiated the entire thing after she wouldn't quite biting me.  She's pretty much completely lost interest in nursing altogether.  For the last couple weeks, we've been down to two sessions a day, one first thing in the morning and one right at bedtime.  Yesterday morning, she decided she'd rather play than nurse.  I was surprised!  This morning, she did the same thing.  So, I guess we're down to just bedtime.

I've thoroughly enjoyed nursing.  I didn't have a whole lot of info going into it.  I did some reading and research, but nothing extensive.  I never took any classes.  Phee latched on right away in the hospital and nursed for 50 minutes.  (That should have clued me in, but I'm still amazed at how much she can eat sometimes!)  We had some issues in the first few months, but we managed to work through them with a little more research on my part and a great deal of patience.  Once we figured out she had acid reflux and got her some meds, things really improved.  I even managed to avoid mastitis until just a couple months ago.

We're old pros now.  Not for long though, I guess.  I'll be sad to see our cuddly nursing time go, but Phee's always on the go, so it's not all that much time anymore anyway.  Even at night now, she only nurses for a few minutes before she's pointing to her blanket and the crib.  Independence rules at our house!  Not a bad thing, of course, as this frees us both up and anyone can put her to bed.  It's just hard to believe she's such a big girl already.
